With great sadness, we share the news that our colleague, friend, mentor and AnthFOR founding member Steve Rayner passed away on 17 January 2020.
Steve was absolutely crucial to the formation of this network, which was launched immediately following the Royal Anthropological Institute’s 2016 conference on Anthropology, Weather and Climate Change. These events are only a couple of recent examples of the manifold ways in which Steve brought his approach to ‘undisciplined social science’ to bear on vital debates about climate, science and governance, during a career spanning academic and policy contexts in universities and in the US National Lab system.
Steve’s influence on our work and that of many others is profound; in addition to being wise, witty and insightful he was an incredibly supportive mentor and a generous colleague. We miss him very much and continue to be inspired by his work and commitment.
